PBESI Announces 4 Esports Teams That Will Not Compete at SEA Games 2022

The Indonesian government through the team review Improving National Sports Achievement (PPON) The Ministry of Youth and Sports has streamlined the number of contingents that will be dispatched to the 2022 Vietnam SEA Games.

All contingents from various sports including esports experienced downsizing up to 43.4%. A total of 841 athletes from 52 sports were limited to 476 athletes from 31 sports.

According to Team Leader review PPON, Prof. Dr. Moch. Asmawi, the downsizing decision was taken after conducting a study for various reasons, such as no track record of achievement, no chance of medals, and organizational problems.

So, the Ministry of Youth and Sports chose to make budget efficiency so that they can focus better on facing the 2022 Asian Games.

Training atmosphere

PBESI has conducted a national selection and stage I National Esports Training Center which resulted in 66 athletes being selected from 10 esports competitions to participate in the second stage of the Esports National Training.

After further review by the team review PPON Kemenpora, PBESI also decided to cancel the participation of four sports competition numbers esports for the 2022 Vietnam SEA Games. Here is the list:

  1. Arena of Valor
  2. League of Legends PC
  3. League of Legends Wild Rift Men
  4. League of Legends Wild Rift Women

Even so, through press release what we received, PBESI and all human beings esports in Indonesia are quite grateful for the leadership of the General Chair and Deputy Chairperson of PBESI. Because, esports remains the most important sport above football in terms of contingent deliveries, with 38 athletes and 12 official of 6 match numbers.

Hopefully with this decision, it will not dampen the fighting spirit of the athletes and all human beings esports in Indonesia to continue to provide the best at the 2022 Vietnam SEA Games, so that the ecosystem esports in Indonesia can increasingly show its progress and be recognized by the international community.
